The lab apron never looked so good! And the tie simply throws it all together.

You really do look dashing, a mad botanist!

Sadly, I'm more of a botanist advocate than a botanist.

The ladies seem to like the 'barbarian florist' look.

The Missus playing with the sepiatone.

Our friends Les and Laura brought an entire tray of moss!

Where are you finding these excellent jars and bottles?

Crappy discount chains like Marshall's and the like. They practically give them away. Pier One will have clearance sales on occasion, too. I absolutely hate these places, but that's where they are. Thrift stores will sometimes have good finds, but even in this part of NJ they tend to be picked over.

Well, that's astonishing, I will keep a beady eye trained on those stores, thanks!

Thrift stores have been my traditional source. I've found a lot of really nice "decorative" apothecary jars that way, on the super-cheap. Nothing like getting a giant $60 Z-Gallerie jar with a little bit of floral residue in it for $5.99 plus tax. :D

Are there notes available from the class (online or for purchase) for those of us on the wrong side of the country?

Not sure that level of mediation would be good or bad in my case. I've never been pleased with my earlier attempts at it.

I don't know why it's never occured to me, but a lab apron would be the perfect way to protect my big skirts and tops and such from cricket guts and algae (I eschew lab coats because they're too damn hot)

I concur - the mad scientist/barbarian florist/Frank Kingdon Ward look is a good one! (also I was inspired by previous posts to put my VFTs in terrariums, midwesterners can find worthy vessels on discount at Old Tyme Pottery Barn on the cheap)

What a wonderful blog! I'm mildly obsessed with Tibet for the wildlife and pockets of animist religious culture, and the Franklin Kingdon Ward books are always a wonderful escapist getaway to the time when biology and botany were romantic endeavors instead of sterile and sort of dull (Watson and Crick, I am looking at YOU)

I wish I could have made it, as I had hoped to!

I did however find some red indian pipes and chicken of the woods in my travels this weekend!
