AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER
Met up with friends during the taping of Philebrity.tv's first talk show this evening. I was chatting with 215 Festival partner-in-crime and friend Mary about the Hodgman event and the dance party that followed. It turns out I missed a bit of excitement after I'd had my fill of dancing, drinking and shameless flirting. Apparently one of the women with whom I was getting down in a particularly Philadelphian fashion decided to sit down and cool her weave. She proceeded to cross her legs, whereupon a handgun fell out of her black cowboy boot. Not a dainty ladygun, mind you: a big, fat shiny glock. From what I understand, she did what any true lady would do in such a situation: she discreetly tucked it back in, and continued dancing.

If I knew I was carrying on with an armed woman, I might have bought her a drink. Pity her wardrobe malfunction didn't happen while we were dancing together: I might have taken out my kerchief, handed her piece back to her, and clinked it with my gin and tonic--preferably without blowing off my toes. Stuff of legend, that: the sort of thing friends would recount over drinks twenty years from now. Stillborn folklore is a damn sad thing, isn't it?

Have to say she was a good dancer, though.

Good thing she was a good enough dancer not to blow off her *own* foot. Is there a subsection in Philadelphia's concealed-carry law for this situation? There are additional risks added to the situation if one is Poppling and Locking while Rocking a Glock.

Also, if you were dancing with a woman packing heat, and she had a pegleg and it was longer than the other, I would STILL think you would HAVE to say she was a good dancer. SHE'S GOT A GUN.

Many years ago I had a lively relationship with a girl who, in a previous life, had run guns for a living (once inadvertently provoking an international incident, for which she achieved a fleeting level of celebrity). She was exciting, if sometimes slightly unpredictable, company. And she had a contacts book to die for.

She is now - and I assure you that I am making absolutely none of this up - married to a vicar.

While we did many varied and interesting things together, we never danced - something I now regret - so I can't vouch for her moves.

Good Lord, a vicar? Seems a waste of feminine volition, but at least she had the good fortune to land on her feet. Hell of a trajectory--would make a wonderful book.

Oh, I love dancing and flirting with the ladies. My old school Philly moves often attracts women of the African persuasion, who seem to deem me a kind of novelty. White guys aren't supposed to move like that, I'm told.

Hence, the gun in the boot. Truth be told, I've probably taken many a pistol for a twirl over the years; at this point, I've probably cut a rug with a veritable arsenal.

I would like to point out that, because I commented on your dancing abilities, I am now getting inquiries as to whether I am the gun-toting lady in question.

And although I'm not, I almost wish I was... if only because I'm a sucker for a good story, even if I am opposed to firearms as a rule.

I'd just say yes. Think of the rumors, yarns, and speculation! Mere fact is thin gruel in comparison, M.

In college days of living in some of the worst neighborhoods in Philadelphia to carry various sprays and weaponry, usually given to me as gifts. Best said gift was by far the punching dagger. If I had my druthers I'd probably opt for a morning star, but somehow that seems slightly less practical.
