DUCHESS/WINN PERRY'S NEW DIGS

As I mentioned previously, Duchess Clothier and Winn Perry have brought their showrooms under one roof, where men can find just about anything they might want, be it great or small. Before we made our way north to the Olympic Peninsula, I ordered a Duchess suit (a sage gray with lavender lining) and grabbed a great polka dot Tiffany blue linen pocket square. It was a delight to snoop through their goods...
The new showroom space is located at the corner of SE 11th Ave and Division St. in Portland. It used to be a lobby for the Ford Building, where they once made Model T's. The rough brick, huge cracked columns and tile floor make a nice setting for a men's boutique and tailor.

This ceramic iPod Phonophone II from Science & Sons is marvelous:
Some offerings from Duncan Quinn can be had:
These shoes by Grenson, Alden, and Common Projects are beautiful. And the Swims galoshes are great fun:
All around you are jackets and shirts from Duchess' Viceroy collection, shirts by Seize sur Vingt, Moscot glasses, hats from Pinkham Millinery, gloves by Dents of England, ties by Alexander Olch and Duncan Quinn, handmade Edwin Jagger straight razors with custom leather cases, colorful Argyle socks, spicy but masculine sandalwood soaps and colognes by Meehan, jaunty braces in multiple designs by Albert Thurston, Unbreakable Umbrellas, and pocket squares galore (they'll be offering amazing circular pocket squares soon, which allow for some really interesting folds).
My eye kept catching on these magnificent cufflinks by Emma Franklin. Hand cast heads of rhinos, hippos and stags. For someone like me who owns seahorse cufflinks, they are a joy to behold.
Here's our man Jordan Sayler, proudly presiding over his Winn Perry wares. Handsome lad. Lovely gent, too.
Jordan also maintains a journal for Winn Perry, where he describes everything you see in these photos. You may contact Jordan at Winn Perry by phone at 503.922.1298 or by email via sales@winnperry.com. Tell him Whimsy sent you.
In these times, few of us can afford big ticket items. But buying a small but beautifully crafted item like a great little pocket square, cool socks, or a handcrafted wallet can be an inexpensive but potent morale booster. It's a good way to give your look a lift without breaking the bank. The savagery of this economy need not make savages of us, after all.
