Wow - beautiful essay Lord Whimsy!

My dad has a Night Blooming Cereus (aka Sirius, Queen of the night, or Reina de la noche) that opens once a year. It has the most intoxicating fragrance. It always feels like a bit of a miracle when that thing blooms.

No photos Lord Whimsy, but here is what the plant looks like year round, and here are the blooms. They are very easy to grow from what I have heard, and your description, "many nocturnal flowering plants exploit the low light levels of evening, which gives their predominantly white and yellow blooms a preternatural glow," describes it beautifully.
