SOLLO-RAGO SPRING MODERN AUCTION

(Klaus Ihlenfeld (German/American, 20th Century) Nocturnal Plants, 2007; Phosphorous bronze.)

......

John Sollo and David Rago have once again joined forces to present this Spring's modern auction at Rago Auctions this weekend in Lambertville, NJ. The lots can be perused from the link, and here are a few fantasy picks of my own:

PAUL EVANS Pair of verdigris copper cube chairs, the cushions covered in blue leather patterned with futurist designs, ca. 1968.

PAUL EVANS "Wing" sculpture with verdigris patchwork copper over steel armature, ca. 1968. (One of only two ever produced, this sculpture was originally installed in Paul Evans' garden at his home on Aquatong Road in New Hope, PA.)

TOSHIKO TAKAEZU Glazed stoneware Moonpot, 1982.

TOMMI PARZINGER Pair of four-arm painted iron floor lamps with green linen drum shades.

MIGUEL SAGUARO Cast aluminum three-panel room screen.

Harry Bertoia (American, 1915-1978) Untitled, ca. 1940; Colored inks on rice paper.

They have also invited several designers and architects to take the items on sale and create showrooms. I walked through it last weekend; some rooms were lovely, and others challenged one's tastes, which is good fun for a pantywaist aesthete like myself. A slide show of the results can be seen here.

Have a favorite?

The Paul Evans cube chairs are gorgeous - and I stumbled upon the George Nakashima Double-Pedestal Desk, which I'm now going to pretend doesn't exist, because it breaks my heart to know that I'll never own it.

I was really taken by this elegant little number.

Those cube chairs are unreal.

I'm happy to see you have Toshiko Takaezu on your list. I was given one of her moonpots as an extraordinarily generous (and appreciated) gift. The dimensions are slightly smaller than the one pictured. Definitely one of my most prized possessions.

Lucky you!

Really keen on this Natzler, too.

Can you believe this is a Voulkos?

And this huge Calder rug is phenomenal in person:

The Natzler is nice as well, but I prefer the Takaezu.

I must plead ignorance on Voulkos. But this is great as I have someone to do a bit of research on today.

I positively lust for that rug. Do you know what fibers were used?

Someone's already mentioned Nakashima. This table, the Minguren I coffee table, is amazing.

$100,000 for a table though... that's just obscene.

Yeah--that one's a standout. Very tactile piece--kept petting it last week. Reminds me of some of the coral I've seen.

Damn it, W! Great stuff overload...imminent! Switching to...emergency reserve!

I'll take:

the unique Noguchi chess table

the monumental Paul Evans cabinet

the amazing daybed-cum-planter by Billy Haines (a distant relative, long disowned by the family)

this wonderful little Beato bowl

a fantastic Bertoia wire tree

Wharton Esherick's library steps

...and his wonderful book of woodcuts to go on a shelf

and as long as I'm burning through the banknotes, this epic Nakashima table

Well! That was fun. Now I need a cigarette.

I'd say I'm the most into LAU's or SCLAROFF's, but I also like n°91, Mahogany bed, or KNOLL's n°333.
Still don't know how to put pictures in here, so there are some of my own's INCONNU's in my journal
