NEW DUDS FROM PORTLAND, FLORENCE

Here's my new suit from Duchess Clothiers of Portland (I was waiting for adjustments on the vest to be completed before I trotted it out, but when my new shirts from Simone Abbarchi came last week from Florence, I caved like a good little peacock and threw the shiny new plumage on my back.

The suit is a deep slate blue color with a subtle windowpane pattern in a more saturated blue. This is my first suit with peak lapels, but they are so modest, slender and pert that they are a rather nice detail, and not the short man's bane as they can sometimes be. The trousers are slim and the 60's style pockets do not bulge out at the hips--something I cannot stand in off-the-rack suits.

I love how the reds and pinks of the new shirt complement the blues of the suit. It rhymes with the Paul Smith tie and the suit's lining, which is a deep crimson (Oops--forgot to photograph that.)

The Missus calls this my "worried dog" look.

She doesn't have a name for this one. Less said, the better.

That is a beautiful suit! I love the peaked lapels and those fancy buttons. Where did you get that excellent pocket square?

I think I picked it up in Philadelphia. Boyd's, I believe. Old school haberdashery, with huge marble staircases. Looks like the set of Are You Being Served.

I've got to find a better haberdashery around here! I'm tired of these flimsy little flat pocket squares everybody sells.

It's called the "out of conditioner in the dead of winter" look.

forget the tie and the cuff-links, the best accessory of this outfit is the halo!

Once again my envy of your sartorial sense has practically killed me. Though I will admit that (a) the suit looks marvelous, of course; (2) the color combinations are inspirational; and (c) I love what you've done with your hair.

My favorite pair own shoes is aubergine. Nice plummy brown. Goes beautifully with my blackwatch tartan suit:

Fantastic suit, and as other have said, I'm loving the bangs.

What material are the suit buttons? They seems like wood or metal in the pictures...

If you could come to tomorrow night's Easthampton City Arts party you would certainly be the best dressed man. I will tink of you as inspiration when I dress myself.

I especially like the cufflinks, jacket buttons and tie - which I see is from my fellow Nottinghamian, Paul Smith. :) Thanks for sharing your purchases, and thanks also for giving me the personal tour of your garden the other night, which my subconscious decided to line up for 3:30am entertainment...

What are "60's-style pockets"? You didn't take a picture of them either.

Frog-style pockets, they're called. The lip of the pocket goes down slightly and then straight across--think of a capital letter "L" on its back.

I'll be taking detail shots once the vest arrives. The lining is lovely and needs to be seen as well.

It's a ceramic cast of a prehistoric Smilodon skull from the La Brea tar pits. We've had it for years.

Thank you Sir. I hope I can get a similiar one here. No tar pits in old germany, unfortunately.

Oh, I'm sure you can find casts over there--they're pricey, but fairly common.

Germany's claim to archaeological fame is being home to the quarry where they found the first fossilized Archaeopteryx.

the longer hair makes you look darker and broodier Whimz.
in that suit, with the right lighting you could almost look like a Bad Seeds member.

i don't think you'll find any needle use within the Bad Seeds anymore.
tea and biscuit use maybe.
