Yes, it is from a catalog. Yes, it has been art directed and staged to within an inch of its life, which means that it is geared for the page or computer screen, and probably comes off as uptight and bitchy in reality. And yes, above all else it is geared to appeal to aspirational bourgeois fantasy (it certainly works on me, although for me the appeal is far more aesthetic than aspirational).
But you know, these images are also very beautiful. Texture and strong forms take precedence over the subtle palette, which is a pale study in whites, golds, browns and blues. Someone at Zara has been looking at Morandi lately.
