INAUGURAL ATHANASIUS KIRCHER SOCIETY MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
It was a glorious evening of unabashed nerdiness. Oh sure, the New Yorker described the attendees as "self-consciously twee hipsters", but that's how self-conscious cynics characterize gatherings with relatively low snark levels (Belle & Sebastian was not mentioned once during the entire evening, btw). I for one met some lovely people. Anyway, I thought I'd share the footage with you, in case anyone was interested: Links to complete videos of individual presentations may be found on the Athanasius Kircher Society Website. Below is a list of the individual presentations: --The Meeting is Called to Order --Anthony Grafton’s Invocation --“Stump the Real Rain Man,” with Kim and Fran Peek --Nate True’s Time Fountain --Kircher Society Mementos --Rosamond Purcell: “Snakestones and Flying Cats: Collecting for Kircher’s Ark” --Romeo and Juliet: The First Ever Dramatic Performance in Solresol, Introduced by Paul Collins, Directed by Dylan Thuras --The Man who Fell from Space: Col. Joe Kittinger, Jr., USAF Ret. --Jesse Ferguson’s Polyreactory Assemblage of Contemplation, Gadgetry, and Exothermic Liberation, and the Meeting’s Adjournment ~W |
