BOG BEAUTIES

Pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea ssp. ventricosa) and Spade Leaf Sundew (Drosera intermedia)

Rose Pogonia orchid (Pogonia ophioglossoides).

Golden crest (Lophiola americana). Very odd--but beautiful--little white, fuzzy stalked plant. Shot from ablove, so you don't see its long, thin white stem.

Grass Pink orchid (Calopogon tuberosus). The vibrant color, twin blooms and pleasing proportions in the bloom make this orchid a personal favorite. They can vary in color intensity more than other bog orchids, which is unusual. I've seen them as pale as Rose Pogonias.

Ahhhh! *explodes*

I actually remembered that I will be down in the pines next week (most likely) to set up some gypsy moth pupae in one of the state's field stations (we are observing them to see what parasitoid predators emerge from the pupae, to get an estimate of the natural enemy populations). I think I'll take a walk during lunch.

Enjoy! I assume you know where Webb's Mill Bog is (Greenwood Wildlife Mgmt. Area).

I took it upon myself to trim the path and walk today. It was getting a bit wooly. Naturally, I cut around the egg masses.
